Patients, families, physicians and communities around the world are honoring International Childhood Cancer Day. We invite you to get inspired by our art exhibit “Cancer Journey through a Child's Eyes” that reflects the courage, strength and hope of young cancer survivors. The Truth About Cancer
Cathy Scheepers is The Max Foundation's representative in South Africa, working to support people living with cancer in her country and within the continent. In this World Cancer Day blog, she shares her truth, and that of many other people facing cancer.
It is said that "the truth will set you free". In this perhaps we find the answer to most of our problems. On World Cancer Day the truth might not be the magic cure, the panacea but it might be the start to better outcomes.
Lies, stigma, cultural perception and ideologies have for centuries clouded the outcomes of cancer. The truth is not shared as most believe it to be a taboo to speak about the"dreaded C". We hide behind the curtain and cross our fingers believing "it only happens to other people". It does eventually find you behind the curtain and looking for the truth is difficult as it is nicely swept under the carpet.
Today however I heard the truth. At a press conference hosted by Campaign for Cancer and Pink Drive I did not hear doctors or scientists share their graphical findings but I heard people, normal ordinary, just- like- you-and-I people speak the truth.
Read More if you are ready to hear the truth.

Optimisim in the face of cancer
World Cancer Day 2015 is beginning around the world...advocates, survivors, physicians and supporters are waking up knowing that we are all charged with getting the message out that 'Cancer is not beyond us'. Today (and everyday), all of us can take action by going to our social media networks in order to raise awareness!
This World Cancer Day, we are bolstering our message that 'Cancer is not beyond us' through art! In honor of the day, we have created an exhibit entitled, "Optimism in the face of cancer" with specially selected images created by cancer survivors and caregivers that capture messages of Hope, Freedom and Life. Let our collection inspire you to say that we are making great strides in cancer control and together, we can achieve a cancer free world.
Best wishes to friends around the world honoring the day!
Special note: The image created for World Cancer Day that accompanies this blog capturing so well the spirit of the day was made by our friends in MaxIndia alongside the patient support arm of The Max Foundation known as Friends of Max.
